SISU CSC Scholarship 2027–28: Coverage, Deadline and How to Apply

Shanghai International Studies University (上海外国语大学) is taking applications for the Chinese Government Scholarship, Type B, for Master's and PhD study starting in September 2027. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and meet the language rule of their chosen programme. The CSC application and the full university application are both due by 22 November 2026, 24:00 Beijing time.

What the scholarship covers

  • Full tuition waiver for the funded study period.
  • Accommodation on campus.
  • A monthly living allowance of CNY 3,000 for Master's students and CNY 3,500 for PhD students.
  • Comprehensive medical insurance, reported at CNY 800 per person per year.
  • The funded period is stated in your admission notice; typical programme lengths are 2–3 years (Master's) and 4 years (PhD).
  • Benefits follow current CSC standards, and awards depend on CSC approval. The university has indicated about 50 planned places for the year.

Who can apply

  • You must be a non-Chinese citizen in good health.
  • Master's applicants should be no older than 35; PhD applicants no older than 40.
  • Chinese-taught programmes ask for HSK Level 5 with a score of at least 180.
  • English-taught programmes ask for IELTS 6.0 or above.
  • Your major must appear on the university's 2027 postgraduate programme table, and you must meet the 2027 SISU admission guide.
  • You cannot hold another Chinese government or university scholarship at the same time.

Documents you need

  1. The Chinese Government Scholarship application form, downloaded from the CSC system after your first submission (mandatory).
  2. The other items on the CSC document checklist and the SISU 2027 admission guide (certificates, transcripts, passport page, study plan, recommendation letters, medical form and police clearance are typical; check the exact list).
  3. Everything except photos uploaded as clear PDF files.
  4. A working email address and phone number you will keep through the whole process.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Register on the CSC online system, choose Category B, enter agency number 10271 and select SISU, then submit and download the application form. This first submission is not your final scholarship submission.
  2. Register on the SISU application system, fill in your details, upload the documents including the CSC form, pay the application fee and submit.
  3. Watch the status in your account. If it shows documents returned as incomplete, fix them and resubmit before the deadline.
  4. Attend the online written test and interview when the university emails your schedule. Missing it counts as withdrawal.
  5. After programme admission, upload your admission notice to the CSC system and resubmit as instructed.
  6. Wait for the university committee and CSC expert review. Admission alone does not mean a scholarship.

Tips for Bangladeshi applicants

  • The deadline is close. Book your IELTS or HSK result, or confirm the score you already hold, before you start the forms.
  • Ask two professors for recommendation letters now and give them at least a week; they must be on letterhead and signed.
  • Start your document preparation early: Bangladeshi certificates and transcripts may need attestation or notarised translation, and a police clearance certificate takes time.
  • Get the foreigner physical examination form completed at a hospital that will stamp it and attach your photo; it is valid for a limited period.
  • Compare this with other CSC options so you are not relying on a single application.

Frequently asked questions

Is the scholarship guaranteed if I am admitted?

No. SISU decides admission, but the final scholarship award comes from CSC expert review.

Can I apply to the CSC system and SISU on different days?

Both parts must be completed by the 22 November 2026 deadline. The time your application is successfully submitted in the SISU system decides whether it is accepted.

Do I need HSK for an English-taught programme?

The notice sets IELTS 6.0 or above for English-taught programmes and HSK 5 (180+) for Chinese-taught ones.

Can I change my major after I arrive?

No. Recipients cannot change institution, major or study period after arriving in China.

Can I hold another scholarship at the same time?

No. Concealing other funding can lead to cancellation, repayment and a ban from future CSC applications.
