SJTU Undergraduate Engineering Cluster 2027 in English: Deadline, Fees

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (上海交通大学) offers an English-taught Undergraduate Engineering Cluster for international students starting in autumn 2027. Students study introductory engineering together for the first 1.5 years, then continue in Global College or move to another engineering school. The Regular Application deadline is 31 March 2027; the Early Action date, 1 November 2026, has already passed.

What the program offers

• A common first 1.5 years of introductory engineering at Global College, taught in English, followed by a choice of major.
• Majors at Global College include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Computer Science and Technology. Other schools offer Materials Science and Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Power and Energy Engineering. The list may change.
• Tuition is about CNY 150,000 per year, subject to government filing. The application fee is USD 75, non-refundable. Insurance is CNY 800 per year.
• SJTU does not provide free on-campus housing but offers a housing subsidy of CNY 1,100 per month to first-class scholarship holders.
• SJTU/Shanghai Government Scholarship classes run four years. First class: full tuition waiver, CNY 2,500 monthly allowance, CNY 1,100 monthly accommodation subsidy and insurance. Second class: 50% tuition waiver, accommodation subsidy and insurance. Third class: 25% tuition waiver and insurance.
• Chinese Government Scholarship applicants apply through the Chinese embassy or consulate in their country and list SJTU as first choice.

Who can apply

• High school graduates or equivalent; final-year students use a pre-graduation certificate and must hold the diploma before enrolling.
• Non-Chinese citizens with a valid foreign passport who follow China's Ministry of Education rules on nationality; applicants with Chinese-citizen parents face extra documentation.
• Good health and no criminal record.
• Non-native English speakers: TOEFL iBT 90 (tests before 21 January 2026) or 4.5 on the new 1-6 scale, IELTS 6.0, or Duolingo 120, unless exempt (for example SAT EBRW 650 or four years of recent study in an eligible English-speaking country).
• A CSCA score with mathematics is required; other tests such as SAT, ACT, A-Level or IB can be submitted first, but CSCA scores must follow by 30 June 2027.

• Check CSCA registration dates now; Bangladeshi applicants without CSCA must still provide it before 30 June 2027.
