USTB CSC Type A Pre-Admission Letter 2027: Who Needs It and How to Apply
Applying for the 2027 Chinese Government Scholarship through your embassy? USTB issues Type A pre-admission letters by email from November 2026 to March 2027, within seven working days.

University of Science and Technology Beijing (北京科技大学, USTB) is issuing pre-admission letters for the 2027 Chinese Government Scholarship, Type A. The letter is only for students applying through their own government or a Chinese embassy, such as the embassy route from Bangladesh. USTB accepts requests from November 2026 to March 2027 and replies within seven working days.
What the pre-admission letter does
Type A, also called the country bilateral program, is a full or partial scholarship that China offers under agreements with other governments. You do not apply to USTB for it. You apply to the dispatching authority in your home country or to the Chinese embassy, and you list your preferred universities in the CSC system.
A pre-admission letter shows that a university has already checked your file, and you can submit it with your other Type A documents. Keep these points in mind:
- It supports your Type A file but does not replace any required document.
- It is not a final admission notice. Final selection is made by the scholarship authorities and USTB later in the cycle.
- You request it by email, and USTB aims to send it within seven working days.
- It is not for Type B applicants. If you are applying directly to USTB for the High-Level Postgraduate or Silk Road program, do not request this letter; Type B uses USTB's institution code 10008.
What the scholarship covers
- Tuition and on-campus accommodation.
- A monthly living allowance at CSC rates. For its Type B awards, USTB quotes CNY 3,000 a month for Master's and CNY 3,500 for PhD students.
- Comprehensive medical insurance.
- Scholarship holders take part in an annual review each April–May to keep their funding.
Who can apply
- Non-Chinese citizens in good health who are applying for the 2027 Type A scholarship through their own government or a Chinese embassy.
- Bachelor's applicants need a high school certificate and a CSCA score report, which USTB treats as compulsory.
- Master's applicants need a bachelor's degree; PhD applicants need a master's degree. Age limits are set by the scholarship rules.
- Language: HSK for Chinese-taught programmes, or an English certificate for English-taught ones (IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 at graduate level). If you do not have one yet, explain why in your email.
- You must list USTB as one of your universities in the CSC application, and USTB recommends making it your first choice.
Documents you need
- Passport copy.
- Bachelor's and master's degree certificates, or an official enrolment certificate showing your expected graduation date if you have not graduated (send the degree later). Originals or notarised copies, in Chinese or English.
- Transcripts covering every course, with marks and the grading scale. Originals or notarised copies, in Chinese or English.
- A study plan naming the exact degree and major you want at USTB.
- HSK or English proficiency certificate, or a note explaining why you cannot provide one.
- For Bachelor's programmes: your CSCA results.
How to apply, step by step
- Pick your programme from USTB's 2027 lists and note its full name in Chinese or English.
- Email the documents to csctypea@ustb.edu.cn with the subject "Pre-Admission (Type A) Application + your full English name". Write the full programme name in the email body.
- Receive the pre-admission letter by email, normally within seven working days.
- Submit your Type A application through your home dispatching authority or the Chinese embassy, attach the letter and register on the CSC system with USTB as a choice.
- If you win the scholarship, complete USTB's own online registration. Admission documents, including the JW202 visa form, are normally emailed in July.

Tips for Bangladeshi applicants
- Watch for the Type A circular from the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka or the Ministry of Education. The Bangladesh round can close before USTB's March window ends, so request the letter in November or December.
- Ask your university for transcripts that show the CGPA scale, because USTB wants grading standards. Notarise degree papers early.
- Write a study plan for one specific USTB programme. A vague plan that names no major slows the letter down.
- No IELTS yet? Explain in your email. Our guide to studying in China without IELTS covers medium-of-instruction letters.
- Keep a second route open: USTB's Type B High-Level Postgraduate program closes on 10 March 2027. Compare routes in our CSC scholarship guide.
