Tsinghua SEM Master's Programs 2027: Rounds, Fees and How to Apply

Tsinghua University (清华大学) School of Economics and Management, known as Tsinghua SEM, is admitting international students to three pre-experience master's programs for 2027: the Master of Finance, the Master in Management and a dual master's in Business Analytics with Columbia University. Round 1 closes on 15 December 2026 and the main deadline is 26 February 2027, 17:00 China time.

These programs are run by SEM with their own rounds, language rules and fees, so they differ from the general route covered on our Tsinghua University page. Pre-experience programs are designed for students with little or no work experience.

Who can apply

  • Foreign nationals with a valid foreign passport. Former Chinese citizens need at least six years of foreign nationality by 30 April 2027, and all applicants upload nationality documents under Tsinghua's 2027 instructions.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent. Overseas degrees must be authenticated by CSCSE (China's Ministry of Education service centre) before Tsinghua's 2027 registration date, or the admission is void.
  • Chinese: HSK 5 with 180 or more. Graduates of Chinese-taught degrees can ask SEM for an exemption, and MoF and MiM may waive the requirement for exceptional applicants. Chinese Government Scholarship applicants still need the HSK report that scholarship asks for.
  • English: optional for MoF and MiM. TCMiBA needs TOEFL 5.5 on the new scale (100 on the old scale) or IELTS 7.5, valid to at least 31 May 2027. Alternatives are TOEFL Home Edition 100, PTE Academic 69 or Duolingo 135; an English-taught bachelor's degree exempts you.
  • TCMiBA also lists a GRE of 320 with 3.0 in writing, but notes this may be waived from the 2025 cycle onward.
  • Applicants from any academic background are welcome, and you must meet China's and Tsinghua's health and conduct rules.

Documents you need

  1. Personal statement in both English and Chinese.
  2. CV in both English and Chinese.
  3. Bachelor's degree certificate with CSCSE authentication. If you have not graduated, upload an expected graduation certificate and submit the degree and authentication before registration.
  4. Undergraduate transcript, plus a GPA certificate from your university if the transcript shows no overall GPA. MoF and MiM accept Chinese or English; TCMiBA needs English.
  5. HSK report or exemption proof; TCMiBA applicants add their English score report.
  6. Recommendation letters from associate professors or above, or senior professionals: two for MoF and MiM (Chinese or English), three for TCMiBA (English or bilingual).
  7. Passport bio page of an ordinary passport.
  8. Nationality status documents, by the deadline. No extra documents are accepted after the application period ends.

Upload colour scans of originals or notarised copies. Phone photos and scans of photocopies are rejected, and documents in other languages need notarised Chinese or English translations.

Costs beyond tuition

  • Application fee: CNY 800, paid online when you submit. It is never refunded and cannot be covered by the Chinese Government Scholarship.
  • Accident and hospitalisation insurance: CNY 800 a year.
  • Beijing campus housing: CNY 40 per bed per day in a double room or CNY 30 in a triple. Rooms are limited and booked online, first come, first served. Shenzhen housing is handled by SIGS.

Scholarships

  • Chinese Government Scholarship: the full award covers tuition, housing or a housing subsidy, a stipend and medical insurance; a partial award covers some of these. MoF applicants can use Type A only. MiM applicants can use Type A or Type B. TCMiBA is not open to Type B. SEM strongly advises applying in round 1.
  • Beijing Government Scholarship: tuition and medical insurance for one academic year, for MiM and TCMiBA.
  • Program scholarships: for MoF and TCMiBA. MoF students at SIGS can also try the SIGS International Student Scholarship (Distinguished and Merit levels).

  3. Upload your documents and pay the CNY 800 fee. Files without the fee are not processed.

Tips for Bangladeshi applicants

  • These are not English-only degrees. MoF and MiM teach in both languages, so start HSK 5 preparation now unless you studied in Chinese.
  • If you want a Chinese Government Scholarship, apply in round 1. For Type A, check the process with the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka early. Our CSC scholarship guide explains Type A and Type B.
  • Start CSCSE authentication of your Bangladeshi degree as soon as you have the certificate.
  • Write the personal statement and CV yourself in English, then have the Chinese versions checked by a fluent reader.
  • The MoF fee of CNY 198,000 is high; plan your full budget with our study in China cost guide.
